WORK
Office Design
Company: UCare
I think at least once in a designer's career, they're asked to create something to "spice this place up." The most notable one that I've been involved with was for UCare. At first, it was the CEO's office so that she would have an interesting video backdrop. I called in a vendor who I knew was flexible and discussed what was needed, and the job was pretty much done as soon as it was conceived.
After that, I was tasked with designing an entire office space in Duluth for our sales representatives. "Do whatever you want," they said. In an effort to be cohesive with our headquarters, I designed a 3D cutout faux wall in the entrance vestibule. The receptionist also wanted a bit of privacy from the parking lot, so I came up with a design that had frosted glass with cutout UCare sparks to keep it on brand. There was also an opportunity to market ourselves on the back window, which conveniently was right next to a Starbucks ordering stall. It doubled as a break room privacy window.
All of this took working with the builders (with an ever-changing floor plan), vendors (coordinating specs and installation) and UCare's facility team (along with their budget for this project).
